The pacer you can’t outrun
Yesterday as I was praying for a friend’s daughter who has wandered away from God, I found myself saying this, “Do not let her outrun you forever.” And like that, I declare, I saw an image of Lord Christ, hound of heaven, pacing that girl as she ran.
We have a friend who is a pacer for marathons. As an athlete, his job is to set and maintain a steady pace for a group of runners to help them meet a specific time goal. They experience a real benefit when they run with their pacer.
How well I know the power of the Pacer. I also know that even though my own running boy ran hard and far, he never outran that beloved pursuer. And the truth is this…
Even though he did not want to follow God’s pace and his timing, God never abandoned him. Through highways and crooked byways, on dark and evil paths, he was not alone. And one day, those running feet ran back into the fold. All along–every moment–his pace and path were being guided, guarded, and kept.
If someone you love is running away, pray that the divine Pacer may accompany his or her every step. Then believe that he truly will do it.
Those solitary footprints you see in this photo? There’s a second set of footprints you cannot see. But they’re there. Oh, they are there.
With love,
America’s small, caffeinated mom
